Lednice Castle with its large English park is one of the most beautiful complexes in the Czech Republic. The whole estate was acquired by the Liechtensteins in 1249 and belonged to them for almost 700 years. The chateau building acquired its present appearance during an extensive reconstruction in the mid-19th century in a style imitating English Tudor Gothic. This was a reconstruction of the original Renaissance chateau from the 16th century, around which there was already a large garden. The chateau underwent a significant modification at the end of the 17th century, when it was adapted to the Baroque style according to the plans of the important Italian architect Domenico Martinelli, then based in Vienna, and Jan Bernhard Fischer of Erlach.
